The concept of a “parenting relationship” was developed and formalized while writing Your Child and Divorce. Specifically, there was the need to describe the manner in which an ex-husband and ex-wife would relate to each other in regards to their shared responsibility for their child. Unfortunately, the simple term “relationship” was inappropriate in that there are connotations of a more personal and intimate connection which is not the case with divorced husbands and wives.
Fortunately, a person does not need to look farther than basic terminology to see that society has actually defined many different types of relationships; a business relationship, a romantic relationship, a professional relationship, a personal relationship and so on.
Therefore, the term parenting relationship is meant to define the relationship between a separated or divorced mother and father who are united in a shared interest to provide their child or children with a stable, healthy and supportive upbringing and have an awareness of expectations and responsibilities to succeed in doing so.
Establishing a successful and effective parenting relationship is essential to your child's happiness.
Your Child and Divorce will show you how.
